24 Feb Nautical Institute Cyprus full house for Cybersecurity presentation by SOFTimpact
SOFTimpact presented to a full house for the Nautical Institute Cyprus branch which was hosted at the offices of Marlow Navigation on 23rd February 2016
The event was held over 1.5 hours with the first session being presented by Markus Schmitz Managing Director – SOFTimpact on the current status and vulnerabilities in maritime systems used onboard vessels. The second session was presented by Lee Williamson Prinicipal Consultant – SOFTimpact with the assistance of Markus for a interactive live demonstration of “hacking” whereby the chairman of the Nautical Institute Graham Cowling bravely volunteered to be hacked live in front of the audience.
Utilizing 2 screens side by side the audience was shocked when SOFTimpact caught live the login credentials of Graham to a popular local eCommerce system and further still when live onscreen they captured “fake” credit card credentials Graham input into the system.
Lee then went on to explain other technologies that could lead to the loss of sensitive data and giving access to the hackers to do more.
A lively questions and answers session followed by a cocktail reception where discussions continued well into the evening.
